Police Scotland Ayrshire seize illegal vapes

Police Scotland Ayrshire and North Ayrshire Trading Standards have seized illegal vapes during a joint week of action in response to concerns about illegal vapes and their sale to the underaged.

Inspections were conducted at several vape stockists in the Beith, Kilbirnie and Stevenston areas.

Police Scotland Ayrshire said: “Numerous non-compliant disposable vape products were found in two stores and seized for destruction.

“Some disposable vapes seized today contained well over 10 times the nicotine content allowed in UK vapes – approximately 560 cigarettes worth of nicotine in one disposable vape product.”

In addition, fines were issued to a retailer in Irvine and a retailer in Largs that had failed to register their businesses as vape stockists. Since 1 April 2017, businesses that sell vape products in Scotland must be registered. Selling vapes without registration can lead to heavy fines or imprisonment.
