MFG’s Tweedbank site granted alcohol licence

The Scottish Borders Licensing Board has granted MFG a premises licence to sell alcohol from the yet-to-be-built Tweedbank Service Station, at Tweedbank Industrial Estate.

MFG’s new petrol station, which is located just off the Melrose roundabout on Tweedbank Drive, is part of a larger redevelopment. The site, which will create 30 jobs, is expected to open around the first week of August this year.

The Border Telegraph reports that Kelso Councillor Tom Weatherston said he was happy to support the application on the grounds that 10% of the shop space was devoted to alcohol sales – not the 14% applied for.

Other members of the licensing board agreed, stating that agreeing to a 14% floorspace would create a “precedent”, the newspaper reports.

Members agreed to the application on that basis.
