Spar Scotland awards £1,000 to foodbanks

Spar Scotland has donated £1,000 between four foodbanks after a competition held on social media in January.

The symbol group’s followers on Facebook and Instagram were asked to nominate a local foodbank to receive £250 in Spar Scotland vouchers.

Paula Middleton, Spar Scotland Marketing Manager, said: “We wanted to support those organisations who are looking out for others when times are tough and decided to give away £1,000 in Spar Scotland vouchers to local food banks. The four foodbanks chosen would receive £250 each to redeem in a Spar Scotland store.

“The campaign was aimed at communities and as we are always looking at ways to give back, we thought giving away £1,000 in Spar Scotland vouchers to local foodbanks would help. We are delighted these four organisations will benefit from the vouchers.”

More than 230 nominations were received and four winners were picked at random to be given £250 each.

The winners are: Thornton Community Food Support, EBI Unites, Wee Mobile Foodbank Lanarkshire, and Dalbeattie Foodbank.

In 2022 Spar Scotland hit a milestone of more than £1m donated to local and national community-based initiatives and charities since 2013. Applications are currently open for Spar’s £100k Community Cashback, where shoppers from all over the UK can apply for an organisation or charity to receive a share of the giant jackpot to support their activities. Entries can be made until 15 March 2023 here.
