Retailers urged to read latest guidance on energy security

The Food Sector Resilience Group is urging retailers to read the latest guidance on energy security and apply for ‘protected site’ status, if they meet the eligibility criteria.

The Electricity Supply Emergency Code outlines the process for ensuring fair distribution of electricity rationing during a prolonged electricity shortage.

Details about the code and advice on how to apply as a protected site can be viewed here.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Government’s Resilience & Energy team has said: “While security of gas and electricity supply is a reserved matter, the Scottish Government is in regular contact with National Grid Gas Transmission and National Grid Electricity System Operator, who are responsible for managing and maintaining our gas and electricity supply across Great Britain.

“As would be expected, both organisations, alongside the UK Government, have undertaken a range of modelling to analyse our anticipated energy needs over the winter months. They have advised us that they are confident these requirements will be met in full. We will continue to engage with industry, the UK Government and Ofgem in relation to planning for any challenging scenarios for this coming winter.”
