Get to Falkirk!

Irn Bru strip

Two things Under The Counter can’t be bothered with are English football and online gambling.

He’d rather watch Hamilton Accies and fill out betting slips in his local bookies. Mostly because both pastimes get him out from under Mrs UTC’s feet on a Saturday afternoon.

So, he was underwhelmed to discover that the Premier League was thinking about banning the promotion of gambling on football shirts and that betting.com had come up with an alternative sponsorship angle for clubs.

More specifically, the gambling website picked out a dozen or so British teams that play close to where famous food and drink brands were founded then kitted them out with new strips inspired by the brands.

This was of no interest whatsoever to the Auld Boy until he found out one of the brands in question was none other than Irn-Bru.

In case you didn’t know, Scotland’s other national drink was first made in Falkirk in 1901, roughly around the same time UTC was getting made a few miles west in deepest, darkest Lanarkshire.

Irn-Bru is one the great loves of Under The Counter’s life, the others being Mrs UTC, Tennent’s Lager, Famous Grouse and Tunnock’s Caramel Wafers. Although not necessarily in that order.

Now all the old galoot can be bothered with is logging onto betting.com in the vain hope of bagging himself an Irn-Bru strip. Even if does come with a Falkirk badge.
