Spar retailers across the UK will soon be able to vastly improve their foodservice options, after the symbol group revealed the pilot of Daily Deli, a new concept that includes fresh salad products, sandwiches, baguettes and accompaniments.
The Daily Deli range, which is available all day, has been trialling at Spar Glenwell in Belfast since 26th February. It includes the installation of a serving counter.
If the trial is successful there will be six different Daily Deli opportunities available to Spar retailers to choose from.
These will range from an entry-level offer comprising a self-service counter selling sandwiches, baguettes, chilled snacks and coffee, to a complete Daily Deli offer including a served counter selling hot meals, as well as a self-service option on the shop floor with sandwiches, baguettes, wraps, croissants and more.
Spar Brand lunchtime range will be rebranded Daily Deli in the store and the nutritional content will be clearly labelled on the packaging. Five of the sandwiches in the range contain less than 300 calories: Prawn Mayo; Tuna & Sweetcorn; Chicken Salad; Ham & Mustard and Egg Salad.
Spar views the new concept as an opportunity to make the most of the trend for ‘foodvenience’ – the convergence of foodservice with convenience. As many Spar stores already offer franchise partnerships with the likes of Subway, Costa Coffee and Greggs, the company hopes to build on these collaborations and create something new for our customers to enjoy.
“Daily Deli is Spar’s answer to widening our presence in foodservice and giving our retailers more of an opportunity to offer foodservice in stores,” said Debbie Robinson, Spar UK Managing Director. “It’s another great way of showing our customers that they are getting a fantastic quality proposition from Spar and highlighting the nutritional content will help guide our shoppers to make the right food choices.”
