Police Scotland West Lothian have issued a Public Awareness Notice following reports of counterfeit £20 notes circulating in several areas.
The Bank of England £20 polymer note includes security features that are difficult to fake. Before accepting a note, take a moment to check:
- Transparent Window – The clear window should contain a metallic portrait and fine details.
- Hologram – Tilt the note and the hologram should change between “Twenty” and “Pounds.”
- Raised Print – The words “Bank of England” should feel slightly raised.
- Portrait – The note features J.M.W. Turner with sharp, clear printing.
“If you suspect a note is counterfeit, do not return it to the person who gave it to you,” said the police. “Handle it as little as possible and contact your local police or report it through your bank.”
