Co-op has appointed Alex Dower as Managing Director of its Retail business.
Dower joins the retailer with more than 20 years’ experience across food retail, convenience, hospitality and FMCG, having held senior roles at Tesco, Holland & Barrett, Pret A Manger, Harrods, Woolworths Australia, Mars and PepsiCo.
He will take responsibility for one of the UK’s largest convenience retail businesses, with more than 2,300 stores, a quick commerce operation and annual turnover of more than £7.25bn.
Most recently, Dower served as CEO International at Holland & Barrett, where he led operations across multiple international markets. During his time as Chief Commercial Officer at Woolworths Australia, he oversaw the transformation of the retailer’s fresh food offering, including customer propositions, pricing and promotional strategies, and partnerships.
In his new role, Dower will focus on growing Co-op’s food retail business, strengthening its customer proposition, supporting innovation across stores and digital channels, and delivering value for members.
