Bordeaux Distilling Co has launched Brunette Clear, a transparent organic coffee liqueur which the company says reimagines how coffee flavour can be used in cocktails.
Positioned as a response to the global coffee industry’s estimated 20 million tonnes of waste each year, Brunette Clear is made from two coffee by‑products: cascara and coffee blossom. Both are soaked for two weeks and gently distilled to retain their floral and fruity flavours; a third distillate from a cold‑brew by‑product is added. The blend then rests for six months and is gradually reduced to 22% ABV for a smooth finish.
The producer says the result expands the role of coffee liqueurs in cocktails, offering clarity for drinks where colour has been a constraint and adding delicate aromatics alongside coffee depth. It contains nearly four times less sugar than mainstream coffee liqueurs and has no additives or colourings.
Samantha Burke, Managing Director of UK distributor Love Drinks, commented: “When it comes to innovation and craft, Bordeaux Distilling Co continue to raise the bar and their latest iteration is a clear winner. Far from style over substance, Brunette Clear not only tackles waste in a wasteful industry but allows mixologists to take coffee flavours to new elegant and exciting frontiers.”
Brunette Clear (ABV 22%) is available from Love Drinks in a 70cl format at an RSP of £31.
