CJ Lang & Son refreshes fleet

CJ Lang & Son has welcomed the first of 12 new trailers, part of a £1.6m investment in its fleet, to its Dundee distribution centre.

The new trailers, built in Scotland by Fraserburgh-based Gray and Adams, incorporate the latest Thermo King A400 Advancer Refrigeration units – improving fuel efficiency by around 30%, significantly reducing CO2 emissions compared to the outgoing units, and they are quieter too.

Later this year the company will also take delivery of four new Scania rigid vehicles, incorporating Gray and Adams bodies and Thermo King refrigeration, and five new Scania tractor units replacing some of the older MAN vehicles on the fleet.

Colin McLean, chief executive of the family-owned Scottish wholesaler, said: “We were very impressed with the build quality, fuel economy and reliability of previous vehicles from Scania and Gray and Adams making it an easy decision to make this investment in our fleet.

“It is of utmost importance to us that we continue to deliver quality products to our stores in a safe, efficient and timely manner and in all weathers. This investment will support the growth of both our independent Spar retailer business and our Spar Scotland company-owned store estate.”

The new vehicles will operate from Dundee and travel anywhere from Kirkwall in the north to Gretna in the south.
