Dundee-based wholesaler and convenience retailer for Spar in Scotland, CJ Lang & Son Ltd, has appointed Josie Cattermoul as Trading Director, effective 8 December 2025.
In her new role, Cattermoul will lead Trading across Buying, Range, Promotions and Supplier Partnerships, with responsibility for strengthening the Spar Scotland proposition and driving profitable growth across both independent and company-owned Spar stores.
Her priorities include building deeper, more collaborative supplier partnerships, increasing the focus on local Scottish sourcing and embedding joint business planning across key categories to improve availability, value, and execution across the Spar Scotland estate.
Cattermoul brings more than 15 years’ senior trading and commercial experience across convenience retail, wholesale and food retailing in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, with a strong reputation for supplier-led growth and disciplined category strategy.
She joins CJ Lang & Son Ltd from Tasmanian Independent Retailers, where she was General Manager – Merchandising & Marketing, leading end-to-end trading strategy across buying, ranging, promotions and marketing for an independent retail network. Her role focused on joint business planning, margin optimisation and building collaborative supplier partnerships to deliver sustainable growth.
Prior to this, Cattermoul held senior roles at James Hall & Co, where she was Head of Trading – Ambient, Frozen & Horticulture and at Iceland Foods as Senior Buying Manager – Confectionery & Seasonal. Across these roles, she developed a strong track record in driving category-led growth, improving availability and value, and delivering sales and margin through disciplined trading execution.
Colin McLean, Chief Executive Officer of CJ Lang & Son Ltd, said: “Josie brings exactly the blend of trading expertise and collaborative leadership we need for the next phase of Spar Scotland’s growth. Her experience, alongside her focus on partnership and data-led category strategy, will be instrumental in strengthening our offer for both retailers and customers.”
Cattermoul said: “I am excited to work with suppliers across Scotland – from national brands to local producers – to deliver joint plans that strengthen availability, sharpen value and help retailers succeed in their communities.”
