Christian Drouin unveils experimental Foursquare Angels

Family-owned calvados producer House of Druin has released the eighth edition of its Christian Drouin experimental range: Foursquare Angels.

To produce it, a 17-year-old Pays d’Auge calvados was matured for 17 months in French oak barrels that had previously contained rums from the Foursquare distillery in Barbados. The calvados was removed and matured for a further three months in freshly re-toasted barrels before bottling.

House of Drouin boss Guiallame Drouin commented: “Christian Drouin experimental Foursquare Angels is one of the most intense and rich expressions we’ve produced in this range.

“The rum casks delivered notes of brown sugar and vanilla, giving the calvados exceptional complexity and depth. However, when emptying the barrels, I thought that a further three months in freshly re-roasted barrels would further enhance the roundness and structure of this exotic marriage, for a perfect balance between these two worlds.”

Christian Drouin experimental Foursquare Angels is available from Speciality Brands with an RSP of £110.
