Calls for calorie labels on alcohol

There have been calls for alcohol drinks to carry calorie content labels in a bid to reduce levels of obesity.

The Royal Society for Public Health have said that the vast majority of the public are unaware of the calorie content of their drinks.
Public Health Minister Jane Ellison said “great strides” had been made with such labels on food, and that she would examine the possibilities of introducing similar labels on drink.

The drinks industry has said it was open to the idea, but that alcohol content was more important to state.
