Cadbury has announced the winners of its Community Game Changers competition, celebrating independent retailers’ work in their local areas.
Four retailers received the grand prize of up to £1,000: Talha Bhattay of Mibsons Service Station, West Bromwich; Mike Sohal of Dallam Stores, Warrington; Koshia Jose of Lifestyle, Andover; and Debbie Gale of Siop y Pentre Cyf, Llanfair Talhaiarn.
Mike Sohal’s store supports a number of local projects and has donated more than £50,000 through Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally charity. When Warrington flooded in January 2025, staff went door to door checking on elderly residents, offering hot food and drinks.
He said: “Community isn’t just a word to us – it’s how we live, every single day. Our store team is deeply involved in the community, not just financially, but physically too.”
Retailers entered by submitting up to 300 words on snackdisplay.co.uk describing how they support their communities. Judges praised initiatives including community tutoring for underprivileged students, skills workshops for adults with autism, free kids’ lunch bags, translation and guidance for new arrivals, fundraising events, and welfare checks on elderly and vulnerable customers.
Ten runners‑up each received £500, while fifteen entrants took home a Cadbury hamper to enjoy or use for fundraising. The retailer competition ran alongside Cadbury Game Changing Wins, a consumer campaign offering exclusive football-related prizes.
Susan Nash, Trade Communications Manager at Mondelez International, commented: “We wanted to give retailers the chance to be celebrated for their game-changing initiatives. Our Cadbury Community Game Changers competition honours independent retailers by recognising their incredible efforts to be leaders in their local communities. These community heroes have provided unwavering community support, and we are extremely proud to reward them for their efforts.”
