Angus Dundee Distillers, which owns Tomintoul and Glencadam distilleries, has moved its first malt whisky distillery in China into production, ceremonially filling the inaugural cask at the Chun’an Malt Whisky Distillery overlooking Thousand Island Lake.
The site will produce single malt using traditional copper pot stills alongside rigorous yeast management, precise cut control and a diversified cask maturation programme. The project draws on the company’s 200-year heritage, adapting established methods of Scotch whisky production to local conditions in Zhejiang province.
The distillery spans more than 20 acres and is planned as an integrated visitor destination, with production galleries, tasting rooms, experiential dining, retail and outdoor event space. The visitor experience is expected to open in mid‑2026.
A first spirit filling ceremony, attended by Angus Dundee directors and guests, marked the start of maturation for the first casks.
