Spar Scotland celebrates ‘remarkable’ year

More than 870 delegates attended Spar Scotland’s annual tradeshow and conference in Aviemore, which was supported by over 200 FMCG suppliers exhibiting on the day.

The event saw Spar Scotland Chief Executive Colin McLean and fellow directors provide business updates to suppliers, independent retailer customers and CJ Lang & Son distribution, central teams, and store colleagues.

McLean told delegates: “We’ve had another remarkable year, but we would not be where we are without the support of our loyal customers, retailers, suppliers and most importantly our colleagues.

“We made a bold statement with our fresh approach, but it is working and today our business is in a great place, and we are excited about the future.”

Scottish Government Minister Mairi Gougeon, who is currently Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Land Reform & Islands, spent a few hours at the tradeshow talking to Scottish suppliers who exhibited on the day. She also had the opportunity to learn more about the CJ Lang and Spar Scotland business and the challenges facing the Scottish convenience and wholesale industry.

The tradeshow was also visited by ex-Scotland international team captain Colin Hendry who met with football fans, signed autographs and shared with CJ Lang colleagues’ details of his career highs and lows and how he dealt with them.

The event ended with a gala dinner followed by live music including a ceilidh band for some Scottish dancing.

Spar Scotland has revealed its annual tradeshow will return to the MacDonald Hotel and Resort, in the heart of Aviemore and the Cairngorms National Park, on 26 September 2024.

A full write up of the show will appear in the November issue of SLR.
