Midlothian shopkeeper found dead at store

A shopkeeper was found dead at his store in Newtongrange on Friday 18 August, reports suggest.

Best-One retailer Bashir Ahmed, 69, was reportedly pronounced dead after emergency services were called to the Main Street store at around 7pm after concerns were raised.

The store was cordoned off over the weekend as officers investigated the circumstances, the reports suggest.

The retailer, who was known locally as Bash, ran the shop with his daughter.

MSP Bryan Pottinger for Midlothian East told Edinburgh Live: “I have known this well-respected trader for many years.

“Prior to the major premises ‘shop’ refurbishment, Bashir and his daughter managed a friendly and very helpful Main Street post office/shop. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.”
