Mars bites into dog treat category

Pedigree Tasty Bites Puppy

Mars Petcare has rolled out Pedigree Puppy Tasty Bites, in response to a demand for dog treats that are more suitable in texture and size for younger dogs.

Available in chicken flavour, the bite-size cubes are designed for puppies’ smaller mouths and are easy to digest and chew. The bites are also fortified with calcium, Omega-3, vitamins and minerals.

The bitesize treat category is currently worth £30m and growing year on year.

George Hillman, Senior Brand Manager at Pedigree said the launch offered retailers “the perfect opportunity” to boost sales and drive awareness at the point of purchase.

“The treats are fast-becoming the number one must-stock item for retailers; unlocking greater basket spend and encouraging those all-important impulse purchases, without taking up extra space in-store,” he added. “We recommend that retailers focus on secondary sites in store for stocking treats as the category is often an impulsive one. Popular and effective secondary sites include placing treats at the checkout, and using clip-strips and counter top units to create points of interruption in store.”

Pedigree Puppy Tasty Bites is available now at the promotional price of £1.50. It adds to the core Pedigree Tasty Bites range which is available in four varieties and textures – Cheesy Nibbles, Chewy Slices, Chewy Cubes and Crunchy Pockets.
