Independent spirits distributor Mangrove Global has outlined the trends set to shape the off-trade in 2026 and what consumers will be putting in their baskets.
Tequila and low-and-no alcohol products have led growth this year and are expected to remain strong performers. While both categories are gaining traction, gin, rum and vodka will continue to dominate in volume terms as staple spirit choices. Tequila is only a year into its UK boom and is forecast to grow further as consumers deepen their understanding of the spirit, driving premiumisation in the category.
World whisky is also attracting attention, with more drinkers investing in bottles from regions beyond Scotland. Value plays a key role here, as many world whiskies offer exceptional quality at competitive prices, tempting new consumers into the category. In smaller segments such as liqueurs, cocktail culture is driving demand, with Aperol continuing to grow and elderflower liqueurs boosted by the popularity of the Hugo Spritz.
Cocktails remain a major influence on purchasing decisions. This year was dominated by the Margarita and Paloma, fuelling interest in tequila and mezcal. The Margarita is expected to stay popular in 2026, but savoury flavours and culinary twists are emerging, signalling a shift away from sweeter serves like the Espresso Martini and Pornstar Martini. Fresher options such as the Mojito are tipped to gain ground.
Overall, cocktail consumption continues to rise, with 40% of drinkers reporting they enjoyed more cocktails in 2025 than the previous year, supported by at-home mixing and RTDs.
