Legal requirement to wear masks in shops to end after Easter

Shopper with facemask

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has told MSPs that wearing face masks in shops will remain mandatory for another two weeks before coming to an end on 18 April.

Sturgeon said the wearing of face coverings would become a matter of guidance and people would be encouraged to use them “in certain indoor places”.

However, she noted that masks in public places like shops and on public transport have been in place for longer than anticipated due to the high number of cases.

Scotland has reported 9,610 new cases as of 30 March, with 34 new reported deaths of people who have tested positive.
