Speakers announced for HFSS Cross Party Group meeting

Scottish Parliament

The Scottish Grocers’ Federation has confirmed four speakers for the next meeting of its Cross Party Group (CPG) on restricting promotions of food and drink high in fat, sugar or salt (HFSS).

The CPG informs MSPs of the issues and challenges facing independent convenience stores. The group also brings together the key stakeholders in the local retailing sector: retailers, wholesalers, producers, manufacturers, and trade associations as well as wider stakeholders.

The confirmed speakers are:

  • Cheryl McNulty, Restricting Promotions Team Leader, Diet and Healthy Weight, Scottish Government (joining via MS Teams)
  • Kathryn Neil, SGF Healthy Living Programme Director
  • Dean Duke, Public Affairs Senior Manager, Mars Wrigley
  • Umar Majid, Independent Retailer

The meeting will take place at the Scottish Parliament, Committee Room 3 on Tuesday 26 September at 6pm.

Adain Smith, SGF’s Policy and Public Affairs Assistant, commented: “While we do not have the full picture of what the policy will look like, the Scottish Government is considering restricting promotions of food and drink high in fat, sugar or salt. This autumn, Ministers will take the next steps on proposing regulations. This is an important topic for our membership to discuss and find out more.

“Please email me at aidans@sgfscot.co.uk to confirm your attendance if you have not done so already.”
