GroceryAid Ball breaks fundraising record

Tokio Myers

Colleagues from more than 160 companies from throughout the industry attended the GroceryAid Ball on 5 March 2020, raising over £712,000 – a record amount for the event.

The funds will provide support for thousands of colleagues in need.

Charles Wilson, CEO of Booker and GroceryAid President, kicked off the evening and thanked recipients of the recently awarded GroceryAid awards for their support.

The audience then watched a GroceryAid case study, Martin’s Story, which prompted an emotional response from those in the room.

Commenting on the case study, GroceryAid Chief Executive Steve Barnes said: “We did something tonight that we had never done before, one of our beneficiaries volunteered to tell his story in front of over 1,000 industry colleagues. Martin gripped the room and his story resonated with some of the most important people in our industry and for us, I think it will lead to a real step-change on how we are perceived as an organisation.”

Entertainment included Patrick Kielty as host; performances from Tokio Myers (pictured) and Mcfly; and a DJ set from Jo Whiley to end the night.

Next year’s GroceryAid Ball will take place on the 4 March 2021. For enquiries please contact events@groceryaid.org.uk or call 01252 875925.
