Gold Leaf in 9g packs set marker in RYO price battle

Imperial Tobacco has launched a 9g variant of its Gold Leaf rolling tobacco. Complete with papers, Gold Leaf 9g enables smokers to make 22 hand rolled cigarettes for less than £3. With price becoming an increasingly important factor in the tobacco gantry, Gold Leaf 9g pouches will have an rrp of £2.79. Standard and price-marked packs are available while stocks last. At this price point, Imperial Tobacco stressed that the SKU offers smokers a legal, viable cost alternative to illicit RYO, which is untested and unregulated.

Gold Leaf 9g will be a new addition to the range and 12.5g, 25g and 50g packs of Gold Leaf will continue to be available.

Ryan Hopkins, Senior Brand Manager – Fine Cut Tobacco at Imperial Tobacco, commented: “Launched in June 2007, Gold Leaf was developed to meet the ever changing preferences of adult smokers.  Since then, the brand has gone from strength to strength and is now the best-selling Economy RYO brand in theUK.

“A fairly recent addition to the tobacco market, sales of sub 12.5g pack sizes of RYO tobacco have more than doubled over the past year as increasing numbers of tobacco shoppers seek quality products with a low out of pocket spend. New Gold Leaf 9g is an ideal product for adult smokers to trial Gold Leaf, or for those who are seeking better value and to reduce their outlay on tobacco.

Gold Leaf 9g offers retailers margins of 12%.
