Coronavirus: newspaper publisher praises retailers

Rebekah Brooks

News UK boss Rebekah Brooks has thanked retailers for their efforts to support local communities during the coronavirus outbreak, saying that: “We are all in businesses that the public really rely on.”

In a letter sent to stores over the weekend (28 March), Brooks paid particular thanks to retailers who provide a Home News Service: “Some of our older and more vulnerable readers are self-isolating and they rely on their newspaper for the latest news – and it keeps their spirits up too. It is really appreciated. We will continue to champion Britain’s unsung heroes through our titles.”

Brooks said News UK’s journalists, printers and wholesalers will continue to work throughout this crisis to bring the news to people across the UK.

She concluded: “We are classified as an essential service and we are making every effort to ensure you get our papers as early as possible.”
