SGF conference puts reformulation on Government’s radar

Allan Miller

SGF has welcomed a new and encouraging approach by the Scottish government to engaging with key businesses.

A team from the Scottish government recently met with Paterson Arran – one of Scotland’s major independent food businesses – to discuss its approach to product reformulation as part of the current consultation on diet and obesity.

The initial discussion began with Scottish government officials approaching Paterson Arran at the company’s breakout session at the SGF conference. The breakout session showcased the successes the company has had in reformulating key product lines.

Allan Miller (pictured) of Paterson Arran said: “We’ve worked very hard at developing delicious products that also address some of the key questions on diet and recipe formulation.  It’s vital that policymakers have the chance to understand the work that has been done already, and to see how their plans might affect future developments.  We were delighted to be able to offer our perspective.”

SGF CEO Pete Cheema said: “It’s clear that the focus on reformulation provided by our conference and the participation of businesses such as Paterson Arran have had a big impact on the Scottish government.”
