Sugar House Island, the canal-side neighbourhood in Stratford, has welcomed the arrival of The Market convenience store.
Owned by Sifat Hayat, who has over 15 years of experience in East London retail, the outlet is the only convenience store to open in the 26-acre development by Vastint UK, a company behind some of Europe’s most progressive urban regeneration projects. The store officially launched on Monday, 12th May.
The 5,500 sq. ft. shop, which officially launched on Monday, 12th May, offers a fresh and modern shopping experience designed to meet the needs of the local community, which includes residents, students and office workers.
The store features a Pret self-serve coffee machine, a fresh bakery and hot food offering through Country Choice; and a dedicated international foods section. The outlet also benefits from a wide range of groceries, including Co-op own brand products sourced via Co-op Wholesale, and a layout designed for ease of shopping.
In addition, the store provides a key management service to make life easier for residents and businesses, and will shortly be installing an ATM.
With the University of Huddersfield opening its first London campus directly above the store, and 4,000 sq. ft. of commercial space nearby, The Market is set to become a key part of daily life in this vibrant new neighbourhood.
“We’ve designed The Market to cater for everyone – from quick lunchtime top-ups to full weekly shops,” said Sifat. “As independents, we’re rooted in the community and we understand how to offer choice, service and value.”
He added: “I’d love to see more developers offer units to independents. With a little trust, we can create something really special for local communities.”
