Famous Glasgow shop gets alcohol licence

Townhead Convenience Store, which appeared as Harrid’s Convenience Store in BBC sitcom Still Game, has been awarded an alcohol licence.

The Glasgow-based store is currently owned by a husband and wife duo from Iran who have a background in retail.

The store, which was previously known as Alfy’s Paper Shope, has been trading under its current owners since late last year.

Brian McMahon, representing the owners, told the council’s licensing board that the shop is “fairly large”, but would sell a “modest amount of alcohol”.
