You wouldn’t bet on it

Holidaymakers and ex-pats have found themselves in bother with the Portuguese police after a group of 28 were caught playing bingo for biscuits. In Portugal you need a Government licence to gamble and not doing so can find you losing a packet. The Landlady of the Yorkshire Tavern in Albufeira was fined £595 and given a four month suspended prison sentence, which is certainly more than just crumbs.

Unsurprisingly, Marianne Pittaway, said she was “shocked” by the verdict and that there would be no more betting over biscuits on her premises.
