Weetabix partners with GroceryAid and FareShare

Weetabix bake off

Weetabix has announced its official support for both GroceryAid and FareShare UK, a charity that relieves food poverty and reduces food waste.

To kick off its support, Weetabix held its first ‘Charity Month’ in April, which saw the company’s workforce raise over £1,500 in aid of its two charity partners.

Fundraising activities and events took place throughout the month, including e-bingo and lucky bucket. Thursdays were designated ‘Funday,’ with the staff restaurant areas transformed into a space for various activities including darts. Staff could also step outside to indulge in some ‘sponging’ of colleagues. The main event was ‘The Great Weetabix Bake Off’ (pictured), which saw many entrants showcase some outstanding baking talents. In addition, Weetabix employees also gave their time to volunteer at FareShare UK’s East Midlands warehouse.

Weetabix has been a long-term supporter of both charities. It has been helping GroceryAid for over 15 years and was recently awarded the GroceryAid Gold Achievement Award for the seventh consecutive year. Similarly, in 2017, Weetabix donated enough good surplus food to FareShare to provide over 250,000 meals to those who need it most.

Stuart Branch, Group People and IT Director at Weetabix, said: “We’ve focused our charity work into two fantastic partner charities to give greater impact and make a real difference to the lives of those individuals and communities in need.

“Weetabix Charity Month is a great addition to the calendar year, and it was superb to see everyone getting involved and selflessly giving up their time in aid of our chosen charity partners, whilst also having some fun! The team’s efforts and enthusiasm really reflect our ethos as an organisation – and it makes me very proud to work at Weetabix. We’re looking forward to further activity with our charity partners in the coming months.”
