Unitas has published a new sustainability guide designed to help independent retailers respond to growing consumer expectations around environmentally responsible shopping.
The latest instalment in the Plan for Profit Focus On series provides practical guidance on topics including energy efficiency, waste management and consumer attitudes to sustainability. It also outlines the latest information on the proposed Deposit Return Scheme, scheduled to launch in October 2027.
The guide comes as data shows that 55% of Gen Z shoppers prioritise sustainability when choosing where to shop.
Focus On Sustainability is available now on the Plan for Profit website and app, and includes additional messaging from supplier partners such as CCEP, Nestlé, Mondelez and Capri-Sun.
The guide follows Unitas’ call in January for the supply chain to “Think Bigger, Win Together”. The group said it remains committed to providing essential data, insight and seasonal guidance throughout 2026 to support retailers’ decision making.
David Cooke, Chief Operating Officer at Unitas, said: “All the data shows that sustainability is a key priority for consumers, and convenience retailers need to reflect this or risk losing customers to the bigger supermarkets who shout about the green credentials.”
