Uddingston in South Lanarkshire will be the first town to experience Scotmid’s new smaller store format, as the group responds to changing customer demands and shopping habits.
Last September the group announced plans to lease its current retail site in Uddingston at 317-319 Old Edinburgh Road to Aldi. The new store is located nearby at 319B Old Edinburgh Road.
The new Scotmid outlet is set to open on Thursday (30 April) with an enhanced Kitchen food-to-go offer, as well as a Chopstix Noodle Bar and Costa Coffee machine.
The store will also feature a wide range of fresh and frozen goods, everyday essentials and local produce.
Uddingston residents will be able to enjoy their alcoholic drinks chilled this summer thanks to the store’s beer cave.
To mark the occasion, a ribbon will be cut at 10am by, Christine Steven, who has worked in Uddingston since the original store opened, over 33 years ago, recognising her contribution to serving the local community.
Customers visiting on opening day can look forward to enjoying a free Costa coffee and treats from South Lanarkshire favourite, Equis ice cream, as well as goodie bags handed out to the first 50 customers through the doors.
Joining the celebrations will be pupils from Aitkenhead Primary School, whose choir will help kick off the event, alongside representatives from Viewpark Church, whose food bank plays a vital role in supporting local people. Both organisations have strong links with Scotmid and reflect the community partnerships at the heart of the Society. Scotmid has made donation to both, reinforcing its commitment to supporting local causes.
