Parfetts makes Scotland a priority for expansion

Employee-owned wholesaler, Parfetts, has named Scotland as “a priority growth region” as it expands its reach in the country following rising retailer demand for its delivery service.

The business now supplies independent stores across the Borders and into Glasgow, Edinburgh, Motherwell and surrounding areas, with more than 50 deliveries made every week and has claimed that volumes are increasing steadily as new customers join the network.

As Parfetts moves towards an ambitious plan to add more than 300 symbol stores UK-wide to its group in 2026, the business has reached advanced talks with several Scottish retailers about joining the fascia estate.

A major step in the group’s expansion came in mid-2025 with the opening of SR Freshway Lockerbie, the first Go Local Extra store in Scotland. Owner, Raj Sankarnathan, claims that sales are now around 50% higher than turnover in its first month.

Raj’s store was recently named Best New Store at the annual Go Local Ball, underlining the impact the shop has made in the town.

Raj said: “We set out to build a shop that would serve our community well and run with real discipline every day. The support from Parfetts has been great, and recognition in the recent Go Local Awards shows we are on the right path. We are only at the start, and there is more we want to achieve for our customers.”

Guy Swindell, joint managing director at Parfetts, said: “The response from Scottish retailers over the past few months has been highly positive.

“Scotland is a key part of our national expansion, and Raj’s success in Lockerbie shows what can be achieved when we work closely with an experienced and ambitious retailer. We have several conversations underway with stores across the region and look forward to welcoming more into our fascia group.”
