One Stop marks 50 years with month-long campaign

To celebrate its 50th birthday, One Stop has launched a month-long activation plan of in-store and online special deals, customer giveaways and £25,000 worth of community grants. 

The in-store campaign kicked off with gold-themed point-of-sale including hanging signs and bunting. There will also be exclusive promotions on leading brands including Cadbury, Coca-Cola, McVitie’s and Pot Noodle. 

A dedicated landing page on the One Stop website directs visitors to its ‘Birthday Balloon Bonanza’. The digital birthday game will give customers the chance to win an all-inclusive tropical holiday. Birthday deals and special, decade-inspired recipes will also feature.

In addition, the convenience retailer is launching a £25,000 community grant scheme. Customers will be invited to nominate local groups for a chance to receive £500 ‘microgrants’, helping to further support good causes across the UK.  

One Stop was started by Kevin Threlfall on 7th October 1975 as a market stall in Wolverhampton. After five years as a ‘pop up’ shop Threlfall opened his first permanent store ‘Supercigs’ and then joined forces with David Lockett-Smith to become co-founder of ‘T&S Stores’. 

The popularity of newsagents gained speed in the 80s and through several acquisitions, T&S gained household names including Dillons and Day + Nite and rapidly grew. In 2002, Tesco purchased T&S convenience stores, Dillons and Supercigs, changing to the brand ‘One Stop’ and marking a significant turning point in One Stop’s development.  

Over the years, One Stop expanded its footprint and in 2014, the company launched its franchise model. There are now 350+ franchise stores and the retailer has extended its online reach via major delivery platforms including Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats.
