Nisa rewards community retailers

Three Scottish stores were among the winners of Nisa’s Shop Local competition, which encouraged consumers to nominate their favourite store.

The competition initially sought to reward five winners with prizes of £1,000 into their Making a Difference Locally fund, but due to the overwhelming response and quality of the nominations, the number of winning retailers was increased threefold to 15.

The competition received a large number of entries and some fantastic nominations from customers wishing to recognise the community value of their local Nisa store.

One of the winners, Kinnaird’s Nisa Local in Dalbeattie, was described as “a special wee shop that Dalbeattie couldn’t do without”. It received the following endorsement: “The store has the most helpful staff and managers of any of our local shops. Nothing is too much bother, they are always willing to go the extra mile and get products in for you if they don’t stock them. They are always looking out for their customers, young and old, they love helping local charities and there are always information TVs and boards up so we can see what is going on in our town!”

D&M Fraser, Thurso and Nisa Local, Lochgelly were the other winners from Scotland.

Kate Carroll, Charity Manager for Making a Difference Locally, commented: “The Shop Local campaign was designed to recognise the valuable contribution independent retailers make to their local communities and we were overwhelmed by the fantastic response we had to the competition from consumers across the UK.

“The nominations reflect the many ways in which these stores support their communities. Collectively the winning stores have donated a staggering £84,000 to local causes since the charity was formed in 2008 and we are delighted to be able to reward them with a £1,000 donation that will be used to support even more good causes in their community.”
