McCain Foods and social enterprise Community Shop are celebrating the second anniversary of Community Shop Eastfield in North Yorkshire – the home of McCain GB since 1969.
The store, fully funded by McCain through product donations worth over £2.3m since opening in 2023, provides local residents with surplus food and household goods at reduced prices. It also features a community kitchen offering low-cost meals, with children eating free daily.
Revenue raised is reinvested locally via a community hub, which delivers personal development programmes such as cookery clubs, budgeting classes and interview skills. Since launch, the hub has engaged over 1,600 members, delivered 5,900 courses, supported 7,300 people, saved members £1.8m and served 20,000 free kids’ meals.
McCain is also strengthening its partnership with Community Shop by opening a new store in Hull on 11 December. The North Bransholme branch will include a community hub and kitchen, creating 12 jobs and offering free meals for children.
Beyond this initiative, McCain has also donated more than three million meals to FareShare since 2013.
