Martin Dickie, co-founder of BrewDog, has left the business with immediate effect after 18 years. The departure was announced in an internal email to staff, in which Dickie cited personal reasons for stepping down.
“This business has been my life for the last 18 years and I have enjoyed (almost) every minute,” he wrote. “I’m excited to watch from the sidelines as your biggest supporter as you continue to push the business forward with your talent and drive.”
Dickie founded BrewDog in 2007 alongside James Watt, who stepped down as CEO last year to take up the new role of “captain and co-founder”.
His departure comes amid wider challenges for the Scottish craft beer firm, which recently announced the closure of 10 bars, including its original Aberdeen site, and reported a £59m loss in 2023.
It also follows reports that Dickie has invested £20m into a new medicinal cannabis venture.
