Bring on the ballot, says SGF

Pete Cheema, SGF Chief Executive

Scottish Grocers Federation has welcomed the Prime Minister’s call for a snap general election. The Federation has called for the new UK government to look urgently at the cumulative impact of cost pressures facing retailers.

Chief Executive Pete Cheema (pictured) said: “There are still key areas of policy reserved to Westminster which impact on retailers in Scotland. The UK government must look at controlling rises in the national minimum wage, the living wage and employers’ national insurance contributions. Taken together these costs are fast becoming unsustainable and are threatening the viability of many businesses.”

SGF is also calling for an urgent review of the impact of Making Tax Digital, Auto Enrolment and changes to Statutory Sick Pay arrangements. SGF will hold a hustings event in May to give its members an opportunity to engage directly with candidates from the main political parties.
