BrewDog confirms job cuts following £37m loss

BrewDog core range

BrewDog has announced job cuts across several departments following a fifth consecutive year of pre-tax losses, with the latest figures showing a £37m deficit for the year ended 31 December 2024.

The Aberdeenshire-based brewer informed staff of the decision in an internal memo from Chief Executive James Taylor, who said the company was “right-sizing” parts of the business to focus energy and investment in the right areas. “We know change can feel unsettling, and we don’t take these decisions lightly,” Taylor said. “But we are confident that the steps we’re taking now will help us operate more simply, stay focused, and drive the business forward”.

The company has not disclosed how many roles are affected, but the cuts are understood to impact both brewery operations and office-based staff at BrewDog’s Ellon headquarters.

The restructure follows a turbulent period for the business. In July, BrewDog closed 10 bars across the UK, including its flagship Aberdeen venue, citing “continued challenges” in the hospitality sector. In August, co-founder Martin Dickie stepped away from the company, and last week BrewDog sold its Kinrara Estate near Aviemore to land investment firm Oxygen Conservation, ending its ambitious rewilding project.

Trade union Unite described the job losses as a “deeply worrying sign for the company’s future” and said it was supporting affected members.

Despite the setbacks, Taylor said the fourth quarter would be “critical” and that BrewDog had a “strong, focused commercial plan” in place to meet its goals.
