Bestway adds some fizz to the off-trade

Bestway wines

Bestway Wholesale has introduced several new lines to keep up with evolving trends in the wine market.

The UK is seeing an explosion in the sales of Prosecco, which has overtaken Champagne in the last year as the UK’s favourite sparkling wine variety. Likewise sales of Spanish wines have increased across the board with Rioja performing exceptionally well with an increase of 10% year on year.

With these in mind, Bestway has launched Royal Prosecco, a range of Spanish wines under the Toro Riendo label and a full bodied Rioja, Villa Principal. These are being complemented by an exclusive UK agreement to sell the Cellier D’Or range of French wines.

Roopinder Toor, Licensed Category Controller for the group, said: “At Bestway, we have seen triple digit growth in Prosecco sales and have been working with suppliers to bring a quality brand to market for the past year. Royal Prosecco is produced in Treviso, which has continually proven itself to be the home of the finest examples of Prosecco, and offers bright and fresh fruit flavours that makes it the perfect wine to have on its own or an ideal accompaniment to a variety of dishes.”

Also new to the group’s licensed stable is Villa Principal Rioja Tempranillo: a rich, fruity wine which is produced for Bestway by winemakers with over 100 years’ experience.

Toor continued: “With an rrp of £6.49, Villa Principal Rioja offers a fantastic deal for shoppers but also provides a 20% margin for retailers.”

To build on the growing popularity of Spanish wines, the group has also launched a range of everyday wines under the Toro Riendo (Laughing Bull) label.

Toro Riendo comprises five variants: dry, medium and sweet whites, a medium bodied red and a medium dry rosé.

Bill Creighton, the group’s Wine Category Manager, said: “The Toro Riendo name represents the playful image of the brand and the modern graphics will ensure shelf standout with other Spanish wines which can sometimes look a bit dated.”

Finally, completing the new line up is an exclusive label from France, Cellier D’Or, which comprises red, white and rosé variants.

Royal Prosecco and Villa Principal Rioja Tempranillo will be promoted in Bestway and Batleys depots throughout February with a discounted case price of £29.99 and £24.99 respectively.
