Scottish Grocers’ Federation has appointed Asim Sarwar as its new Vice-President.

Sarwar, already a leading figure in the industry, is currently Managing Director of United Wholesale Scotland. He will take up the new role with immediate effect and will succeed the current President, Dennis Williams, at the SGF Centenary Conference in October.

“We are delighted that Asim has accepted this key role within the Federation,” said SGF Chief Executive Pete Cheema. “This ensures continuity and means that we have effective succession planning in place.

“Asim is a leading figure within both the wholesale and retail parts of the value chain and he will bring invaluable experience to his new role, for the wider benefit of both the industry and SGF”.

Current SGF President Dennis Williams added: “This is excellent news and ensures a smooth transition into our 101st year. Between now and October I look forward to working with Asim and the senior team at SGF to build on the progress we have made in our centenary year”.

Asim Sarwar said: “I am delighted to have been offered this key role with SGF. Providing leadership, bringing the supply chain together and working in partnership will be a key focus for the Federation going forward and I am looking forward to playing a big part in this.”
