Applications open for GroceryAid School Essentials Grant

Schoolkids

GroceryAid has announced that applications are open for its School Essentials Grant, supported by The Leverhulme Trade Charities Trust.

Retail workers could receive £150 per school-aged child (up to three children per household) to help with the cost of school uniforms, subject to eligibility.

Applications are open for three days, closing on Thursday 4 June at 5pm.

To apply for a School Essentials Grant, retail workers need to meet the following criteria:

  • Have been working for a grocery employer for at least six months
  • Be receiving Universal Credit for school-age children (aged 4 -18 as of 31 August 2026)
  • Have household savings/bank balances of less than £4,000.

Even if your School Essentials Grant application is unsuccessful, you may still be eligible for additional financial support through GroceryAid to help during difficult times. A Financial Grant may be available if your household has experienced an unexpected change in circumstances and your income has significantly reduced.

Please note that if school uniform is your only reason for applying, your application will not be considered.

Wider support is also available for the whole family, including counselling for adults and funded counselling for children and young people, all completely free and confidential.

You can call GroceryAid‘s free Helpline for emotional support on 08088 021 122 or message via WhatsApp on +44 7418 360780. Please note that the charity is unable to discuss grant applications on this number.
