Alpro has launched Alpro Matcha, billed as the UK’s first ready-to-drink soya-coconut-based matcha drink.
It is on shelves now in Sainsbury’s, with wider distribution by June.
Made with green tea matcha and a soya-coconut base for a creamy texture and tropical taste, the 1L drink is versatile and can be poured over ice, warmed or foamed. It is fortified with five essential nutrients – calcium, iodine and vitamins B9, D2 and B2 – and is aimed at afternoon occasions when most matcha is consumed.
The launch taps into rapid growth for matcha in tea and RTD, where its presence has more than doubled from 5% in 2023 to 12% in the first 10 months of 2025. Interest is strongest among younger shoppers, with research indicating that 72% of green tea drinkers under 35 now enjoy hot matcha drinks at home or at work.
Alpro says it is the first plant-based brand to bring a soya-coconut-based RTD matcha drink to grocery and is targeting competitive price points. The 1L format is priced at £2.75 RSP, with a 12-week promotional price of £2 and a 12-week hero promotional price of £1.75.
