Referendum result leads to second round of newspaper deliveries

Around 500 newsagents in Edinburgh and Glasgow will receive a second round of deliveries on the morning of 19th September to meet demand for news coverage of the independence referendum.

The exceptional move will see later editions delivered from 9am, providing readers with more up to date information and analysis on the early-morning polling results.

Newspaper publishers have already said they will be increasing supplies on Friday, Saturday and Sunday to anticipate extra demand.

Mark Burnell, General Manager – Newspapers of Menzies Distribution said: “This is a once-in-a-generation event and we’re very likely to see that replicated in the appetite for news coverage. We’ll be supporting publishers in our work by making sure that the extra volumes and later editions get safely to newsagents in time for readers to take in all that’s happened overnight.

He added: “We’ve played a part in bringing every major news story to households across the country for more than 100 years, but it’s not often that the drama is this close to home. Our long logistics experience will help ensure that everyone can follow events with their favourite read on Friday.”
