Nisa Retail has been shortlisted for the National Commitment to the Community Award at the Better Society Awards 2017.

Now in its third year, the Better Society Awards, hosted by Better Society Network, celebrate the efforts that commercial companies make to help create a better society.

As part of Nisa’s commitment to the community, it launched the Making a Difference Locally charity in 2008, which allows independent retailers to support their local communities and has donated around £7m to date. Donations made through the charity are ever-increasing, and following Nisa’s increased focus on growing the reach and social impact of the charity, 2016 was a record year for donations with over £1.4m going to almost 2,000 community causes UK-wide, ranging from schools and sports clubs to hospices.

In addition, each year Nisa employees can donate to community causes that they care about, engaging employees both with the charity and with their local community. In 2016, Making a Difference Locally donated £58,500 to 195 community causes that were close to the hearts of Nisa colleagues.

The introduction of numerous other initiatives, such as Nisa’s Charity Champion of the Year competition which celebrates colleagues who make a positive impact on their local community, saw Nisa shortlisted alongside six major organisations including Aviva, Lloyds Banking Group and Nationwide Business Society.

Katie Collins, HR Director at Nisa, commented: “We are absolutely delighted that the efforts of our colleagues and partners to make a difference in their local communities has been recognised through this nomination.

“As a business we are committed to ensure that Nisa, our colleagues and members keep making a significant positive impact within the communities we serve, to truly make a difference locally.”

The winner of the National Commitment to the Community Award will be determined by an independent judging panel and announced at the Better Society Awards Gala and Dinner on May 11, 2017.
