loading Arian News' tobacco gantry into a van

A Grimsby retailer convicted of possessing illegal tobacco has had his tobacco display unit removed by Imperial Tobacco.

The gantry from the seaside town’s ‘Arian News’ store was loaded into a van last Friday (19th August) after owner Karzan Salim breached the conditions of his agreement with the tobacco manufacturer.

Peter Nelson, Imperial Tobacco Anti-Illicit Trade Manager, said Salim’s “regrettable actions” threatened the livelihoods of his fellow retailers, and that the removal was another example of Imperial’s “no tolerance” policy concerning illegal tobacco.

“If you have any suspicions around its sale, please act by contacting either the Customs Hotline on 0800 59 5000, or your local Trading Standards or Police. Remember, if you Suspect it? Report it!” he urged.
